Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Do you ever get that annoying wrist pain, weird tingling sensations, or numbness in your fingers? Did they start at night, and after some time occur during the day as well? Sometimes even with severe shoulder pain? Well, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome, a compressed nerve in the wrist area.

Symptoms
Individuals with carpal tunnel syndrome often experience numbness in their hands at night or in the morning, which can be relieved by shaking the hands or moving them around. Cold water can also provide relief. Initially, the condition affects the middle and ring fingers, and later, the thumb and forefinger.

Causes

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is irritated or damaged, often due to repetitive wrist or palm movements. Or due to increased strain or repetitive use of for example chainsaws. Other causes of carpal tunnel syndrome include water retention in the wrist, swelling of tendon sheaths, poorly healed fractures, arthritis, and hormonal changes.
Repetitive one-sided movements, such as typing on a keyboard, can cause the hand's flexor tendons to shorten and swell, due to increased tension, leading to a narrower carpal tunnel. The amount and duration of pressure on the median nerve determine the extent of damage to the median nerve. Increased vascular permeability and inflammation in the carpal tunnel can worsen pain and discomfort in the hand and wrist, and may lead to nerve damage over time.

Liberation of pain
Helena's approach focuses on addressing the root cause and can gradually reduce the burden. By utilizing osteopressure, which involves pressing receptors in the periosteum, acute pain can be rapidly and efficiently relieved. Our unique stretching exercises and foam rolling massages help to elongate shortened muscles, release adhesions in the fasciae, and enhance metabolism and blood circulation in the wrist area, which can result in long-term pain relief.
